The traditional clothing in Chile is a chamanto. This is mostly worn in central Chile. They use lots of fabrics but the most common one is silk. The woman weave it with thread and wool, in the middle of the chamanto there is a ribbon to hold it together. Chilean clothes are closely associated with the garments like ponchos, coats, and pants. The Chileans are very particular about their clothing. Chilean women are very traditional and don't think they should reveal themselves and were "sexy clothing."The chamanto and the poncho are very similar but there is one difference the chamanto has reverse colors on each sides one light shade and the other dark. A chamanto is like a poncho but more traditional than a normal poncho.Usually the darker colors are worn during the day and the lighter colors are worn at night. The chamanto is being made more recent or modernized by embellishments like Chile's national flower, blackberries, barley and wheat ears pansies. At higher temperatures only warm clothes are worn with unique designs and bright colors.
